Science Advocacy

Each time when a single hand bathes another, it too gets cleansed in the process. For this reason, it is out of a warm conviction that I believe science is never complete until it is communicated and translated into shared skills among societies. As an individual in computational material science myself, I too, take honest pleasure in sharing my knowledge, expertise and skills despite how limited they may seem. Amongst many of the lessons I have come to learn in life, experience has taught me that sharing knowledge does not make one lesser, but more informed.

Science not only is an intellectual and often practical activity that systematically governs the knowledge of what surrounds existence and life, but is also a gift to humankind. One interesting aspect about the gift of scientific knowledge is that it appreciates whenever it is being given away, and it slowly depreciates when kept away from others. If I had 5 extra hours per week, I would devote this time to filling up crevices and cracks of scientific knowledge through writing brief casual essays about scientific concepts, mentoring undergraduate students, tutoring high school learners and engaging in intellectual debates.

All these activities would essentially rest on the aim of contributing towards the growth of scientific awareness in our academic community, as well as amongst our broad non-scientist society.

  1. I wish we had the platform, this country does not even begin to allow productive science advocacy. When you communicate science, very often only those who are already scientists gets the message because they know where to look, watch and who to listen to. But how do we create a platform where the uniformed, the oblivious can hear the music? How do we make sure we can reach the intended audience and change the status quo? I just read your blog, I watch debates, but it's honestly not me they're intended for, how do we get the message to the right people?

    1. It is quite crucial to share whenever possible, and in whatever way possible.

We are currently living within the Information Age, so I guess one should try various forms of communication from the ambit of formality all through to that of causality.

One way or the other, the message will eventually reach an audience willing to be a bit more informed.
